Cuomo extends eviction moratorium statewide

Nick Reisman is reporting for State of Politics a ban on residential tenant evictions will be extended through the end of the year statewide, Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo on September 28, announced. An executive order limiting commercial evictions was extended as well. "I want people to have fundamental stability in their lives," Cuomo said. "Nobody is going to be evicted because of housing." The ban on evictions due to the COVID-19 pandemic was put into place at the start of the emergency declaration. The move comes as Massachusetts Gov. Charlie Baker indicated he will not extend a moratorium on tenant evictions in the commonwealth past mid-October. Advocates have called for the state to cancel rent owed to landlords once the emergency order is lifted. Read more at nystateofpolitics [dot] com.
