Kinderhook shuts down ClubLife Health and Fitness

Abby Hoover is reporting for Columbia-Greene Media ClubLife Health and Fitness in Valatie was issued a cease-and-desist order by the town of Kinderhook after the gym reopened this week. “While the town of Kinderhook sought to work with this business owner to secure voluntary compliance with the law, ClubLife refused to follow the clear mandates set forth in the executive orders,” Kinderhook Supervisor Patsy Leader said in a statement. The Kinderhook code enforcement officer issued the order to close the business and the owner was issued an appearance ticket May 12. Should additional violations occur, Leader said the town will call on state and local authorities to step in and remove any one at the facility. Leader also said that anyone found inside the facility will be subject to a fine of up to $1,000. “It remains my sincere hope that this dark period in our history will soon pass, and that ClubLife and all other businesses in our community can reopen,” Leader said. “Until such time, the rule of law must be respected.” ClubLife owner Alex Rosenstrach held a rally attended by 20 people Mon., May 11, calling for the reopening of small businesses. The state's Forward New York plan says once regions meet the criteria to re-open, a four-phase plan begins. Recreational businesses, like gyms, are in Phase Four.
