Forum on shelter proposal planned

Nathan Mayberg reports in the Register Star a forum on the homeless shelter proposal put forward by the Galvan Initiatives Foundation is in the works. The Columbia County Homeless Plan Implementation Committee intends to hold the community forum in Hudson sometime in September. The plan was recently approved by the Columbia County Board of Supervisors Human Services Committee. If the full Board of Supervisors gives its approval, Galvan Executive Director Tom Swope said the matter could be in front of the city of Hudson Planning Commission next month, and a public hearing could happen as soon as September. The implementation committee, led by CARES, a nonprofit organization contracted by the county to work on the homeless plan, hopes to hold the forum before the public hearing takes place, but a date has not yet been chosen.
