Schumer in Poughkeepsie talks opioids

The Mid-Hudson News Network reports that New York Senator Chuck Schumer visited the High-Intensity Drug Trafficking Area otherwise known as Dutchess County on Feb. 19, mugging for cameras in Poughkeepsie about helping law enforcement with the opioid problem. In Dutchess County, there were 75 overdose deaths in 2017, and 40 percent of those cases involved drugs laced with fentanyl. The bill Schumer was touting helps local law enforcement agencies secure high-tech portable screening devices that identify drugs such as fentanyl in the field rather than having to wait for lab tests.
