Board says battery-storage facility will have no adverse impact on the environment

Sarah Trafton is reporting for Columbia-Greene Media the Catskill Planning Board declared November 18, the battery storage project proposed by the alternative energy company Gildepath, will not have an adverse impact on the environment. The Illinois-based company is seeking a special-use permit to site 40 battery-storage containers on 10 acres near the intersection of Route 9W and Route 23. The lithium-ion batteries will supply 20 megawatts of power. The planning board expects to make a decision on the special-use permit November 26, board Chairman Joseph Izzo said. If approved, Glidepath hopes to complete the permit process by the end of the year and begin construction in 2021. Construction should take up to a year to finish.
