Teachout eyeing AG spot

May 14, 2018 2:45 pm
The Daily Freeman is reporting Democrat Zephyr Teachout has formed a committee to explore the possibility of a run for state attorney general, she said May 14. “The next attorney general of New York should be an independent fighter and a voice for the people, ready to take on corruption and lawlessness at the highest pinnacles of power,” Teachout said in a prepared statement. Former AG Eric Schneiderman resigned May 7 following the publication of a report that he physically abused four women. The position is being filled on an interim basis by New York Solicitor General Barbara Underwood until the state Legislature appoints a successor, who will serve through the end of the year. Teachout is an associate professor of law at Fordham University Law School. The Dutchess County Democrat ran for governor in 2014 and for the 19th Congressional District seat in 2016.
