Corporal punishment now banned in New York

Gillian Friebis reports for News10 in Albany that corporal punishment is now completely banned in New York schools. Hitting students in public schools has not been allowed since 1985, but was allowed in private schools until Gov. Kathy Hochul signed the bill on Oct. 25. Corporal punishment is currently legal in public schools in 17 states, and only New York, New Jersey, Iowa, and Maryland explicitly ban the practice in all schools.
