Landscape Under Construction
Landscape Under Construction is a tribute to John Cage for between 1 and 42 CD players using only his CDs. It was written in the Cage tradition by flipping coins and consulting the I Ching, creating each part separately. Many of the parts are simple timelines, instructing the performer when to raise and lower the volume, or press pause or play. Other parts are more open, written in the manner of Cage's number pieces or giving the performer a number of options to choose from. One part is based on a Satie piece, like Cheap Imitation. Much like Radio Music and Imaginary Landscape #4, Landscape Under Construction has the effect of discreet musical or sonic moments coming to the forefront and fading to the background. It has been recorded for eventual release on Mode records, along with a number of Cage's radio works. The piece lasts 34 minutes and 55 seconds.
