APOcrita. Jenny Pickett and Julien Ottavi (Aug 23, 2023)

APOcrita are artificial insects, feeding on the sun.

Sound is related to a time destination, though the journey is not always articulated as it fades away, the electronics live only with solar activities during the day, like apocrita, (a suborder of insects that includes wasps, bees and ants), the little changes in their song are related to how the sun's rays evolves during the day. Micro-evolutions of sound migrate through exchanges with the environment. The solar activities make plants and trees live and produce sugar that feeds their roots (photosynthesis), APOcrita use a similar relation, they live while the sun shines.

Left to interact with their environment APOcrita are a sort of audio graffitti, perceived midst our soundscapes or passed over by the ear.

Installed as a temporary project in Wave Farm's Art Park (Summer 2022 - Summer 2023) Pickett and Ottavi's APOcrita was comprised of soil, sun, flowers, plants, trees, copper, buzzers, solar panels.
