Charles Lindsay

Charles Lindsay is an artist-adventurer whose work synthesizes ideas about time, technology, eco-systems and semiotics. Lindsay creates immersive environments, sound installations, sculptures built from salvaged aerospace and bio-tech equipment. His eighth book of photographs “Recipes for the Mind” is an abstract autobiography available from Terranova / MIT Press. The SETI Institute’s SETI AIR program turned 10 on Mother’s Day 2020. Bettina Forget is the new Program Director. Lindsay is continuing as ‘Founder / Senior Advisor’ working the outer orbits as ambassador. Following all the machinations brought on by the pandemic, with super serendipity and renewed clarification of purpose, Lindsay sold his upstate New York studio of 20 years in order to base in El Pescadero, Baja and Kyoto, Japan — triangulating between Ryosoku-in Zen Temple, studying with the brilliant and progressive Vice Abbott Toryo Ito, and Kyoto University of the Arts, where he is now a visiting professor.
