Hosted by the Prison Voices Project Media Collective.
The show explores the experiences of incarcerated hip-hop artists in the open-regime prisons of San Felipe and Yare 1 in Venezuela. These prisons are internally run and the guards' duties consist only of daily head counts and guarding the perimeter. The people incarcerated manage all other aspects of the prison. Cory Fischer-Hoffman discusses her recent ethnographic research in Venezuelan prisons. The show also features an interview with two youth hip-hop artists in Yare 1 prison and some original hip-hop tracks produced during a workshop there. Plus, Combo Completo, a hip-hop crew from San Felipe prison that started a newspaper and their own record label inside. The show includes some Spanish-language content. Produced by Sara Kendall and Cory Fischer-Hoffman.
