On this episode of The Radio Art Hour we will hear Un mariage si rituel (2024), a radio play in French and Wolof devised by Saïd Mouhamed Ba. Mouhamed Ba is a writer and French teacher living and working in Saint-Louis Senegal. Un mariage si rituel is voiced by Mouhamed Ba’s theater students at the Lycée Ameth Fall and was recorded in 2023 in the school’s playground. The work speaks to the possibilities of tradition meeting modernity in the context of Wolof marriage customs.
Un mariage si rituel was originally broadcast on Radio Picnic and was produced in collaboration with the Institut International de Recherche Sur la Radio et la Magie (IIRRM) and Zonoff. IIRRM is a project dedicated to finding speculative solutions at the intersection of technology and magic. IIRRM is based in Geneva.
