Common Council to act on weighted vote

Nathan Mayberg reports in the Register Star Hudson Common Council President Don Moore announced this week new data for reallocating the weighted vote for the Council and the city's representation on the Columbia County Board of Supervisors is expected soon. The data was generated by a Rutgers University study, nearly a year in the making. The Common Council and Board of Supervisors each utilize a weighted voting system, in which representatives hold varying numbers of votes, based on population. Moore said Council will be presented with several potential changes to the weighted vote numbers at its meeting, Tues., Jan. 15. He said a decrease in the population of the city's Third Ward, combined with a large increase in the Fifth Ward will have a major impact on the Council. Read the full story in the Register Star.
