Town of Catskill heads into budget workshops looking at tax increase

Oct 07, 2019 12:55 am
Sarah Trafton reports for Columbia-Greene Media the town of Catskill heads into budget workshops this week with a tax rate headed up from $6.08 per $1,000 of assessed value, to $7.06 per $1,000. Appropriations for the 2020 budget are estimated at $7,052,482, 3.9 percent ahead of this year. The first of four public workshops on the budget begin at 6:30 p.m. Oct. 8 at town hall. “We are going to look for increased revenue and look for efficiencies,” Town Supervisor Doreen Davis said. She said ambulance services were running a half million over budget, but the town has cut that deficit to $250,000. Davis also said revenue from building permits is up. “In September 2018 we had $32,698,” Davis said. “In September 2019 it was $82,591. As a result of those numbers, we can look at the budget and ways to meet the needs of departments.” Read more about this story at HudsonValley360.com.
