Recreational marijuana legalization slow going in legislature

Tom Precious reports in The Buffalo News that though Democrats won many State Senate elections this year with the promise of votes for legalizing marijuana, it may not be happening soon. "I think we’re only about 50 percent of where we need to be with the governor’s proposal. A lot of conversations need to be had," Assembly Majority Leader Crystal Peoples-Stokes said this week. Assembly leader Carl Heastie⁩ also said this week that marijuana legalization might not get done as part of the budget. "If we can get it done in six weeks, great," Heastie said. Gov. Andrew Cuomo has proposed a highly-regulated, corporate version of legal recreational marijuana use in the state, while others want home growing allowed. Read the full story in The Buffalo News.
