Productions keep filming in the Hudson Valley

Mid-Hudson News reports that Hudson Valley Film Commission Director Laurent Retjo said March 4 that so many movies are filmed in the Hudson Valley because the area can stand in for many other places, and because there are many film workers available for hire. “You can almost cheat anything here, so that makes it an ideal place,” said Retjo. “The other thing that makes the Hudson Valley really special, in terms of making movies, is the appreciation the area has for creativity and the mix that that has with labor.” Over 500 movies, TV shows, and other productions have been filmed in the Hudson Valley since 2000. Most of those projects received a 30 percent tax reduction of below-line costs and 10 percent reduction of below-line labor costs to lure them to the area. Movies coming out soon filmed in the Hudson Valley include “Things Heard and Seen” from Netflix, “Silent Retreat” from Miramax, and an HBO mini-series, “I Know This Much is True” starring Mark Ruffalo.
