Apparently the Berne Planning Board does not exist

Steve Hughes reports in the Times Union that the Berne Planning Board in southern Albany County may have a new problem: “I couldn’t find anywhere where the town created the planning board,” Board member Mat Harris said. “So here we are, we don’t have a planning board.” Harris said the paperwork creating the town’s Planning Board back in the 1970s was never filed with the state. He told the so-called board and about 25 others watching a virtual meeting, that Berne then just has a planning committee. The Berne Planning Board has been beset with a number of problems all year. In January the Town Supervisor fired a board member without a hearing to put a felon in their place, and later lost an Article 78 case on that issue. Then the town board tried to add two members to the Planning Board, to get around the court ruling. That public hearing full of technical glitches was adjourned in a mess. Then last week the Planning Board would not let the public speak on that issue, or any other, muting microphones in an online meeting. Harris introduced legislation last week to make the town’s Planning Board official, but the town did not post the proposal on its website or let the public see the language.
