Town of Cairo adopts budget

Kyle Adams reports in The Daily Mail the Town of Cairo has adopted its 2013 budget, incorporating minor changes suggested during its recent public hearing. The spending plan includes a 1.9 percent tax levy increase, falling well within the guidelines of the state's two percent tax cap. The board approved a public request to include additional funds for the Department of the Aging. The board rejected a request to further increase the allocation for the Cairo Public Library. Other changes included in the new budget: Changing a code enforcement position from part- to full-time, increasing the deputy highway superintendent from part- to full-time status, and adding to the Highway Department staff.
