Greenport officials okay shopping plaza

Sep 10, 2019 12:45 pm
Amanda Purcell is reporting for Columbia-Greene Media the Greenport Planning Board last month approved a plan to build a new shopping plaza on Fairview Avenue. The board gave the go-ahead to the proposal submitted by Greenport Land Partners, or TRG Property Management, for a shopping center to be located at the corner of Fairview Avenue and Healy Boulevard. The project includes replacing and moving the existing McDonald's at 149 Fairview Ave., adding an Aldi grocery store and two other commercial spaces. The Aldi's grocery store would be located behind the new McDonald's and measure nearly 23,000 square feet. It is unclear what will happen to the existing Aldi's store at 300 Fairview Ave. Planning board member Peter Tenerowicz cast the lone dissenting vote against the proposal. TRG can now apply for demolition and building permits to begin construction. Construction of the new shopping plaza will require the demolition of two homes, including a large gothic-style historic house, currently vacant. TRG decided to install an informational kiosk about the house on the development after it is demolished. Read the full story at HudsonValley360 [dot] com.
