Aliya Schneider is reporting for Columbia-Greene Media the 11th annual OutHudson Pride Parade and Festival, which had been rescheduled for September 26, has now been canceled. “The Out of this World-themed event cannot safely move forward,” festival organizers said in a statement, citing the popularity of the event among visitors from throughout New York. “It was the most sound decision based on what I know as a public health professional,” said OutHudson Director Charlie Ferrusi. Ferrusi is a program manager at the state Health Department. “We wouldn’t have all the pieces for a successful parade,” Ferrusi said, adding that OutHudson would not want people to be unsafe during Pride Weekend. The planning of Pride Weekend in Hudson typically begins in January and relies on the work of a committee of volunteers as well as donations from local businesses and community members. That effort was significantly impacted by the coronavirus crisis. Ferrusi said he hopes the parade will be back in full force next year; it is planned for the weekend of June 18 and 20, 2021. In Catskill, a Pride parade was delayed until early August, but held along Main Street. Read the full story at HudsonValley360 [dot] com.
