Lawmakers move to save Spruceton Rd.

Feb 12, 2013 9:10 am
W. T. Eckert reports in The Daily Mail Greene County legislators took action Mon., Feb. 11, to condemn and take by eminent domain property located on Spruceton Road in Lexington to save a failing mountaintop road. Without rehabilitation, the only means of coming and going for the 250 residents of the Spruceton Valley could be lost. The parcel to be taken rests along the West Kill and is frequently compromised by weather conditions, most recently by tropical storms Irene and Lee. Engineers have advised the county that without restoration efforts, the erosion will continue, furthering the failure of Spruceton Road and the quality of the water in the Schoharie Reservoir. The matter will be heard by the Finance Committee before it is presented to full Legislature next week. Read the full story in The Daily Mail.
