Liz Schaeffer is reporting for the Greenville Pioneer the Greenville Board of Education held its first virtual meeting April 6, and it was broadcast live on YouTube with most board members participating remotely from their homes. At that time, district business official Robyn Bhend provided an overview of the $32 million preliminary budget for the 2020-21 school year. The proposed spending plan reflects an increase of $781,136, or 2.49 percent, over last year. The district's tax cap has been calculated at 0.72 percent, and Bhend said there is no plan to exceed the cap. Tax revenues will increase to $17.2 million. A new source of revenue for the Greenville district are the payments-in-lieu of taxes agreements reached with Westerlo Solar for a total of roughly $60,000. Under expenditures, salaries will increase 2.73 percent from last year. District Superintendent Tammy Sutherland said the board will likely need to adopt the budget by the third week of May. Gov. Andrew Cuomo has postponed the school budget votes and board elections until after June 1 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
