Another shopping plaza planned for Greenport
Amanda Purcell is reporting for Columbia-Greene Media a plan to build a new shopping plaza on Fairview Avenue in Greenport is in the works. TRG Property Management hopes to develop a small shopping center at 161 Fairview Avenue, near the intersection of Healy Boulevard, that would include replacing and moving McDonald's, adding an Aldi grocery store and the construction of two other commercial spaces. A site plan proposal was submitted by TRG on February 27. The developers' representatives and members of the Greenport Planning Board have been in discussion about the project for 10 months, planning board chairman Ed Stiffler said. “We’re in the very early stages of the review process,” Stiffler said. Meredith Poole, vice president of TRG, declined to comment, adding the company is not far into its development process. Stiffler said the board is now awaiting a complete traffic study. Under the proposal, the relocated McDonald's would be flanked by two retail spaces. One building would measure 3,400 square feet, the second 3,600 square feet. Aldi's would be located behind the new McDonald's and measure nearly 23,000 square feet. Construction would require the demolition of three homes, including gothic farm house. Stiffler does not know if the homes are currently occupied. Read the full story at HudsonValley360 [dot] com.
