New Yorkers polled on patriotism
Jul 04, 2019 12:34 am
Nick Reisman reports at New York State of Politics that a Sienna Poll announced July 3, says the National Anthem makes 75 percent of New Yorkers feel proud. And 55 percent of state residents plan to wear read, white, and blue on July 4. But in a country founded on protesting the current government, 26 percent of New Yorkers believe it is un-American to protest against the actions of the government. And only 88 percent believe freedom of speech applies to all people, including those criticizing the country. And 68 percent of New Yorkers don't understand that burning an American flag is an act of speech that is allowed by the U.S. Constitution.
