The Stevens Institute reports temperatures this week in the Hudson River at Schodack Island were at or just above 32 degrees, with ice on top of some of the river.

• A new poll of registered voters in New York’s 19th Congressional District reveals 61 percent of respondents think the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency should require General Electric to do additional dredging of the Hudson River to remove the PCBs they put there last century. Environmental group Scenic Hudson hired Global Strategy Group to conduct the poll. Only 11 percent of respondents told pollsters General Electric has done enough dredging, according to the poll, released Feb. 8. Many people questioned had no opinion, and when those polled were told that the governor and many state and business officials have all stated that the river remains polluted and GE must continue its cleanup, the numbers in favor of further dredging jumped to 75 percent, with 10 percent indicating GE has sufficiently cleaned up the river. Democrats, at 73 percent, favored more dredging the most, but a majority of Republicans and Independents, both at 56 percent, also favored more work from General Electric. “This survey provides compelling additional evidence that the EPA and GE stand alone in defending the adequacy of the PCB cleanup. It indicates that citizens in the 19th Congressional District—which represents many riverfront communities whose residents and communities continue to suffer adverse health and economic impacts from PCB contamination—are overwhelmingly in favor of GE resuming the work needed to restore the river and improve their quality of life," Scenic Hudson President Ned Sullivan was quoted in a press release about the poll results.

• The 2018 Clearwater Festival will take place June 16 and 17 at Croton Point Park in Croton-On-Hudson in Westchester County. This year's performers include Wilco frontman Jeff Tweedy, Dave Alvin and Jimmie Dale Gilmore, The Mavericks, Ani DiFranco, Terrance Simien & The Zydeco Experience, and many others.
