Handy family friend asks why no arrests in Kinderhook assault case?

Jul 22, 2020 6:00 am
Nora Mishanec is reporting for Columbia-Greene Media 17 days after Harold Handy suffered significant injuries during a 4th of July party held at the home of a Kinderhook business owner and his deputy sheriff wife, a friend of the Handy family is speaking out, asking why no arrests have yet been made by Columbia County officials. Handy was allegedly assaulted by a group of individuals at the residence of ClubLife Health and Fitness owner Alex Rosenstrach, at 3193 Co. Route 21 in Kinderhook, where he lives with his wife Kelly Briscoe Rosenstrach. As a result of the beating, Handy suffered a broken knee and a broken eye socket, Jeffrey Morrissey said July 21. Valatie Rescue Squad responded to a 911 call shortly after 1 a.m., July 5, and intubated Handy when they found him on the front yard of the home; he was immediately transported to Albany Medical Center. Morrissey said Handy's assailants were a group of law enforcement officers and that nothing is being done to hold them responsible. Morrissey participated in a drive-through rally July 18, to protest the failure of law enforcement to act in the aftermath of the assault, he said. “The kid is beat up and nothing is being done about it and I am outraged,” Morrissey said. “I want these people held accountable. They are all tied together and it is my opinion that it is going to be swept under the rug.” Morrissey and a dozen other people took part in the rally, driving past the homes of people they believe are responsible for the beating, as well as Sheriff David Bartlett’s Kinderhook home. “We wanted to be seen, we wanted them to know that we know what they did,” he said. “We are not letting this be slipped under the carpet. Justice for Harold.” The Sheriff’s Office has not responded to repeated requests for comment, saying only that Rosenstrach was the lone deputy sheriff at the party and that the matter is under investigation. Kelly Rosenstrach was placed on administrative leave July 9; Bartlett has refused to disclose if she is currently on the county payroll or not. Read the full story at HudsonValley360 [dot] com.
