Special election candidates agree on guns

Apr 07, 2018 12:05 am
David Lombardo in Capitol Confidential profiles Jake Ashby, a Republican from Schodack, and Cindy Doran, a Democrat from Troy, who are running to replace Steve McLaughlin in the 107th Assembly District. The two face off in an April 24 special election, and they largely agree, the story says, on gun policy. Both Ashby and Doran would vote for a measure to ban bump stocks, which passed the Assembly and stalled in the state Senate recently. “We need to ban military-grade assault-style weapons,” Doran said. Ashby, though, also thinks citizens should be able to buy for protection from a tyrannical governments tanks and jets. “I don’t think the Second Amendment was conceived with the notion of shooting deer,” Ashby said. The 107th District covers Rensselaer County and parts of Columbia and Washington counties. Read the full story in Capitol Confidential.
