Local Grammy nominees

Jan 04, 2011 11:25 pm

The February 13 Grammy Awards include, as usual, several local talents. For Americana, Columbia County’s Roseanne Cash has been nominated for “The
List,” up against the likes of Willie Nelson, Robert Plant, Mavis Staples, and Los Lobos, and probably should get some type of award for her rapid-fire Twitter feed.

In the category Music for Children, Pete Seeger of Peekskill, now in his 90s, is up for his album with The Rivertown Kids And Friends, "Tomorrow's Children."

In the Best Large Jazz Ensemble category, Woodstock’s Dave Holland, bassist extraordinaire, is nominated for his Octet’s “Pathways.”

In the Best Song written for Film or Television area, Steve Earle – also of Woodstock – has been nominated for his piece, “This City,” composed for the "Treme" series on HBO.

Also up, from Phoenicia, is Uncle Rock, as part of a larger project, "Healthy Food For Thought: Good Enough To Eat," nominated for best Spoken Word for Children album.

Finally, among those who have long histories in the area, John McLaughlin is nominated in the jazz category for his CD, To The One, while Maria Muldaur is up for traditional folk album for her Maria Muldaur and her Garden of Joy, and the ageless Dr. John is up for contemporary blues with his latest, “Tribal” with the Lower 911.
