Albany County Dems decline to endorse a DA candidate
WNYT reports that the Albany County Democratic Committee decided Feb. 21 not to endorse anyone for district attorney this year. Incumbent David Soares was expecting the endorsement weeks ago, but has been embroiled in controversy recently. At least five others are vying for the spot, including three who were interviewed by the committee: defense attorney Lee Kindlon, Assemblyperson Phil Steck, and Soares’ predecessor Paul Clyne. Rick Hartunian, former U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of New York, and State Police Division Counsel John Czajka are also running for district attorney. Soares has been criticized for giving himself a $22,000 increase in pay from grant money that was meant to hire and retain staff. Soares later agreed to give the money back.
