WAMC backs away from Keillor performance

Nov 30, 2017 6:30 am

Steve Barnes is reporting in the Times Union Garrison Keillor's scheduled performance at the Colonial Theatre in Pittsfield, Massachusetts, November 29 was canceled that afternoon just hours after it was announced the public-radio personality had been fired by Minnesota Public Radio for allegations of "inappropriate behavior." WAMC Northeast Public Radio, a sponsor of that performance, had worked to disassociate itself from the show after news of the firing broke. Alan Chartock, WAMC's president and CEO, had been slated to introduce Keillor at the Colonial. "I won't be going," Chartock said during a brief interview via cellphone while he was driving early Wednesday afternoon. However, tickets to the event continued to be sold online through the day. After 5 p.m., a note appeared on the Colonial Theatre's website saying the show had been canceled by DSP Shows. "Berkshire Theatre Group finds any victimization of people deplorable," the note stated. Read the full story in the Times Union.
