First two cases of COVID-19 confirmed in Columbia County

The Columbia County Board of Supervisors Chairman Matt Murell and Columbia County Department of Health Director Jack Mabb Fri., Mar. 20, announced that two Columbia County residents have tested positive for COVID-19. One person is a woman in her 60s in the southern part of county, and the other is a woman in her 30s in the northern part of county, according to Victoria McGahan, a public health educator for the county health department. The county Department of Health staff is monitoring both cases who under mandatory isolation at home. “Although there is a confirmed case in Columbia County, and patient confidentiality prevents specific details about the individual case, the risk to our community remains low,” Mabb said. In a statement, Mabb said it is now more important than ever to be vigilant about proper hygiene in an effort to minimize spread of the virus and advised that anyone experiencing symptoms contact their primary-care physician by phone for guidance.
