Think tank compares local teacher salaries

Melanie Lekocevic reports for Columbia-Greene Media that the highest local median teacher salary is in Hudson, and the lowest in New Lebanon, according to a report from the Nelson A. Rockefeller Institute of Government, a public policy think tank. The median salary for its teachers is the Hudson City School District is $77,406; in New Lebanon it is $59,470. Following Hudson are Coxsackie-Athens ($73,877), Windham-Ashland-Jewett ($73,025), Greenville ($71,979), Germantown ($71,642), Catskill ($71,258), Kinderhook ($69,603), Taconic Hills ($69,361), Hunter-Tannersville ($65,377), Cairo-Durham ($64,256), Chatham ($61,750), and New Lebanon. Except for Cairo-Durham, Chatham, and New Lebanon, those numbers are all higher than the median job salary for workers with a master's degree in Columbia County, which is $65,340.
