Daniel Zuckerman is reporting for Columbia-Greene Media the Aprea Automotive shop on Route 39 in Round Top was destroyed by fire August 26. The fire department was dispatched at 1 p.m. and shop owner, Gerry Aprea, was present and working in the garage when the blaze started, Round Top Fire Company First Assistant Fire Chief Eddie Maassmann said. “Something let loose in the other room,” Maassmann said. “They [the owners] attempted to put it out before they called us.” The cause of the fire has not been determined, but it was not thought to be suspicious, Maassmann said. No one was injured in the blaze. Aprea said the business was not insured to rebuild and estimated it would cost $1 million to restore it. Aprea said he did learn a valuable lesson — never bring gasoline inside a building. “That’s what did it and it was around the corner, but it didn’t matter, the fumes came out and they caught,” he said. “Who knows what happened.” Read the full story at HudsonValley360 [dot] com.
