Officials appeal for help after Columbia County fairgrounds vandalized

Bill Williams is reporting for Columbia-Greene Media the Columbia County Agricultural Society is appealing to the public for help after the county fairgrounds in Chatham were vandalized. The most recent incident occurred in the grandstands, where areas of metal trim were bent, society Secretary Angelo Nero said. The incidents are under investigation by the state police, Columbia County Sheriff’s Office and Chatham Village Police. The grandstands have been repaired, but they are closed off with police tape at the entrances. The grandstands were fully rebuilt in 2001. The Agriculture Society is asking neighbors and visitors to the fairgrounds to keep an eye out for any inappropriate activity, Nero said. If anything suspicious is heard or witnessed, residents are asked to report it to police by calling 911, Nero said. Read the full story at HudsonValley360 [dot] com.
