State Police get new temporary leader

Mid-Hudson News reports that Dutchess County resident Dominick Chiumento has been named “acting superintendent” of the State Police, replacing Acting Superintendent Steven Nigrelli. who submitted his resignation after being informed he would not be named superintendent of the 5,000-strong force by Governor Kathy Hochul. Nigrelli is allegedly being investigated for sexual harassment during his 32-year tenure with the department. Chiumento, a colonel with the New York State Police, took over on October 6, as Nigrelli’s resignation became official. Hochul still needs to pick a more permanent leader.
