Catskill Planning Board loses members
Sep 28, 2020 5:30 am
Sarah Trafton is reporting for Columbia-Greene Media the town of Catskill Planning Board is not what it used to be, after half of the six-member board resigned early this month. Joseph Izzo, Reid Mower and Charles Holtz stepped down and William DeLuca and Angelo DiCaprio as well as Brenda Vandermark as an alternate were appointed September 16, by the town board. The mass resignations began following Teresa Golden's appointment as chair, following Thomas Decker's resignation in August. Izzo, a member of the planning board for more than 10 years, said he is unhappy with the board’s direction. “I feel that the town board is trying to extend control over the planning board,” Izzo said. “I think that the planning board, as an autonomous board, should not be under the thumb of the town board.” First-term town Supervisor Dale Finch wants to change the membership of the board, Izzo said. "...I thought we had a decent board and were doing a good job and obviously the town supervisor thought we weren’t," he said. Brook Stevens, a candidate for one of the vacated seats, took issue with the selection process and accused Finch of appointing the new members without considering other applicants. Finch declined to comment on the allegations. “In response to the vacant positions, there was a need to streamline our process to select talent to serve on the board,” Finch said. “I feel our new members have the ability and will be great assets to the board.” Read more at HudsonValley360 [dot] com.
