NY legislators now the highest paid lawmakers in U.S.
Zach Williams is reporting for the New York Post Gov. Kathy Hochul has signed legislation raising state lawmakers' pay from $110,000 to $142,000 per year. The increase will make New York lawmakers the highest paid legislators in the country. The legislation was sponsored by Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie and state Senate Majority Leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins. In exchange for the raise, however, lawmakers must accept some limits on outside income that will essentially amount to $35,000 per year and will become effective at the beginning of 2023, according to the legislative language. According to the Post account, Hochul had "played coy for more than a week" about whether she would sign the pay raise bill following a special session last week called by Stewart-Cousins and Heastie.
