Jun 22, 2017 6:30 am

Lorna Cherot Littleway is reporting in The Columbia Paper the town of Hillsdale has been presented with a petition supporting a ban on advertising near the town's Civil War monument on Anthony Street. Lifelong resident Beverly Stalked recently presented Town Supervisor Peter Cipkowski with the petition with 200 signatures. Stalked spoke at the town board meeting Tue., Jun. 13, calling the monument "sacred ground," saying it "should remain free from any signs or articles." Stalker has expressed the same opinion at past meetings, but this was the first time she produced a petition. Stalked told Cipkowski she could get more signatures, "if needed." As for the board's position on the matter, members have "expressed concerns for businesses near the monument that want to promote their services and wares," Litteway writes.
