Fourth of July events planned throughout region

The Daily Freeman is reporting communities throughout the region will host parades and fireworks displays, among other activities, to celebrate Independence Day. Some of the events are as follows:

Albany: New York State's Fourth of July Celebration, Empire State Plaza, Eagle Street and Madison Avenue, Albany. 2 p.m., Fri., July 4. The holiday celebration features live music from the Rascals, Gedeon Luke and the People, and Black Rock Zydeco, food, activities and the area's largest fireworks display.

Cairo: A parade will begin at 2 p.m. Fri., July 4, stepping off near the Hannaford store on Main Street and traveling to Angelo Canna Town Park. Following the parade, the Cairo Little League will hold a ceremony commemorating the 40th anniversary of the ballfield at the park, after which members of the Cairo police and fire departments will face off in a softball game. Music, vendors and activities also will be in the park starting at 2 p.m. Fireworks will be shot off at dusk.

Catskill: Fireworks will be shot off at dusk Sat., July 5, on West Main St., near Bridge Street, in the village.

Clermont: An old-fashioned Independence Day celebration will be held from 2 p.m. to 10 p.m. Fri., July 4, at the Clermont State Historic Site on state Route 9G. The day’s festivities will include 18th century crafts, re-enactors, music, entertainment and hot food. Later, live music and hot food will be available until the Saugerties fireworks begin at dusk across the Hudson River.

Durham: A parade will step off at 11 a.m. Sat., July 5, and travel down Main Street (state Route 145) from Golden Hill Road to the Michael J. Quill Irish Cultural and Sports Centre. Fireworks will be at dusk.

Kinderhook: Fourth of July People's Parade, Village Square, 6 Hudson St., 11 a.m., Fri., July 4. Decorate your car, stroller, wagon, garden tractor, bike — anything you can push, pull or ride with American pride. Parade steps off at the park on Rothermel Lane and ends in the Village Square.

Saugerties: A parade will step off at 11 a.m. Fri., July 4, from Saugerties High School on Washington Avenue Extension, wind through the village and end at the Cantine Field sports complex. The Cole Bros. Circus of the Stars will have two performances at Cantine Field, one at 2 p.m. and one at 5 p.m. Fireworks will be shot off at dusk.

Tannersville: A parade will step off from the car wash on Main Street at 3 p.m. Sat., July 5, and travel to the Village Hall and firehouse. Refreshments will be provided at the firehouse. Additionally, there will be music and craft vendors on Main Street from noon to 4 p.m., followed by a blues concert at 4 p.m. at the Orpheum Performing Arts Center. Also, a display of the area’s history will be exhibited at the Village Hall.

Windham: A parade through town will begin at 7 p.m. Fri., July 4, and be followed by a barbecue and music at the base lodge at the Windham Mountain ski center. Fireworks will begin about 9 p.m.
