Marianne Schmidt is reporting for The Columbia Paper on recent action taken by the Ghent Town Board. Town officials February 27, approved almost $2,800 toward the installation of photovoltaic panels at the town highway garage, to complete the solar installation project supported by a NYSERDA Clean Energy Communities Program grant. The grant was given to fund lighting efficiency upgrades for the town's buildings, in addition to the installation of photovoltaic panels at the highway garage. At the same meeting, the board approved the purchase of an All Season Dump Body from Zwack Inc. in Stephentown for the sum of $41,395, as was the renewal of a shared services agreement with the state Department of Transportation for an additional four years under the same terms as the expiring agreement. After numerous letters and a petition to reduce the speed limit along county Route 21 from Garage Place Road to County Route 21B were submitted, the board agreed the reduction is warranted and would improve safety. It will submit the resolution and the request to the Columbia County Department of Public Works and the county Traffic Safety Board. Read the full story in The Columbia Paper.
