Durham town board picks Deckers to replace Nahas

Daniel Zuckerman reports for Columbia Greene Media that the Durham town board has picked previous councilman George Deckers to replace the late Nick Nahas’ on the board. Deckers will fill Nahas’ seat until the end of 2019 and then could run for re-election in November to finish the rest of Nahas’ term, which expires Dec. 31, 2021. Deckers will be sworn in during the Durham board’s organizational meeting Jan. 2. “He will sit in, then, for his first meeting back,” Durham Town Supervisor Shawn Marriott said.
