Gillibrand blasts White House over domestic abuse

Casey Seiler at Capitol Confidential reports that U.S. Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand criticized President Donald Trump and senior White House officials for the poor handling of domestic abuse allegations against now-departed staff secretary Rob Porter. Porter was accused by his two ex-wives of physical and mental abuse and resigned Feb. 7. The White House had been aware of the accusations for months. David Sorensen, a White House speechwriter, resigned under similar charges Feb. 9. "Now we learn they were fine with an alleged domestic abuser working next to the Oval Office as long as the press and public didn’t know about it," Gillibrand said in a series of Tweets critical of the White House on Feb. 9, before the second resignation.
