DOD officials visit Newburgh to discuss water contamination

Nov 16, 2018 1:00 pm
MidHudsonNews [dot] com is reporting representatives from the Department of Defense visited the city of Newburgh November 15, to meet with public officials and to address the community about PFOS and the needed PFOA remediation efforts at Stewart Air Base. This marked the first time the federal government reached out to the community since the water contamination was discovered. According to Orange County Executive Steve Neuhaus, the feds expressed interest in visiting Newburgh and the county took advantage of the opportunity. Before DOD representatives addressed the public, they held a closed session with elected officials from the state, county and city. The subject of the closed-door session was about the creation of a Restoration Advisory Board, Neuhaus said. During the public session, community leaders and residents expressed resentment towards this practice, short notice for the forum and the lack of a solid remediation timeline. PFOS blood testing is still available for city residents, and others affected by the water contamination. Read the full story at MidHudsonNews [dot] com.
