May 12, 2017 2:15 pm
Diane Valden reports in The Columbia Paper that Columbia County Acting Supreme Court Judge Jonathan Nichols did not let Salvatore Cascino out of jail at a May 8 hearing, but could May 18. Cascino has been behind bars for 258 days, and has spent 19 years battling local officials with violations of federal, state, and town laws for illegal dumping, building, and excavating at his "Copake Valley Farm" along the east side of Route 22 in Copake. Currently he's in jail for his failure to obey a court order to remove 9,650 cubic yards of illegally dumped solid waste from the 300-acre Copake property. Copake officials will inspect the property soon, and Cascino has hired a new attorney. Read the full story in The Columbia Paper.
