Marist mascot no longer called 'Shooter'

The Daily Freeman reports that the mascot for sports teams for Marist College in Poughkeepsie will no longer be called "Shooter." The mascot name change was in response to the mass murder by a terrorist with an automatic weapon in Las Vegas where 58 people were killed and more than 500 others injured. The school’s athletics department has changed the name of the mascot to Frankie, after President Franklin D. Roosevelt, who was born in nearby Hyde Park. Read the full story in The Daily Freeman.
