Ulster Co. shuts down illegal dumping near Kingston

Aug 25, 2020 5:45 am
MidHudsonNews [dot] com is reporting Ulster County Executive Pat Ryan August 23, announced the county issued a cease and desist order to halt the dumping of materials at properties owned by Woodstock Landscape and Excavating located off Basin Road in the town of Kingston. Ryan said large volumes of construction and demolition debris were dumped on the county-owned rail corridor property behind the Beesmer Furniture Store on Route 28, and the debris has created a hazard for residents and the environment. “The actions of these polluters threaten the health and public safety of our residents and our environment and will not be tolerated under any circumstances,” Ryan said. “Ulster County has zero-tolerance for this kind of selfish behavior. My office will continue to monitor this situation and we will not hesitate to take additional action should these polluters continue to act in such a reckless manner.” The order requires the end to dumping and filling of refuse in any way that trespasses upon or impacts county property. The order calls for an immediate end to such practices. In 2019, Ryan was the first to issue a cease and desist order against Saugerties polluter Joseph Karolys. Ryan later signed into law a bill that prohibits refuse collected, obtained, or originating elsewhere from being deposited inside the county's borders. Read the full story at MidHudsonNews [dot] com.
