FCC warning of scam calls
May 13, 2019 3:30 pm
The Daily Freeman is reporting the Federal Communications Commission is urging consumers to report waves of the so-called One Ring or Wangiri scam robocalls, which target specific area codes and are often made during the middle of the night, according to the Ulster County District Attorney’s Office. The calls prompt consumers to return the call, often resulting in per minute toll charges similar to a 900 number. Consumers are advised not call these numbers back. The One Ring scammers may call repeatedly, hoping the consumer calls back and runs up a toll that is largely paid to the scammer. The Ulster Co. DA's Division of Consumer Affairs advises consumers not to call back an unrecognized number, especially if it appears to originate overseas. Anyone who receives one of these calls can file a complaint at the FCC website. Read the full story in the Daily Freeman.
