Jun 04, 2018 6:45 am
Claire Gilbert is reporting for The Columbia Paper May 24 marked the 50th anniversary of the Mac-Haydn Theatre. The Chatham theatre was founded in 1969, by friends Linda MacNish, a writer, and Lynne Haydn, an aspiring actress. The troupe rented a cow barn at the Chatham Fairgrounds to stage musicals during its first season. Both MacNish and Haydn have since passed away. The theatre is now led by Producing Artistic Director John Saunders and Company Manager Monica Wemitt. Scheduled 50th anniversary events include a special children’s show written for the Mac-Haydn, and composed by Music Director David Maglione. The show, “Wendy’s Shadow,” the story of Peter Pan told through the eyes of Wendy, will have its world premiere August 3. The first show of the summer, “Damn Yankees” runs through June 3.
