Diane Valden in The Columbia Paper reports Taconic State Park on Route 344 in Copake Falls is getting a new park office, a visitor check-in, and information center, and the 83-year-old first part of the series of "Taconic State Park"s from Columbia County to Westchester will now have a proper entrance. The project will replace the small trailer parked near the entrance that has served as the entrance for the last decade. Construction should be finished by Memorial Day 2011, and 80 percent of the $632,000 project was donated by Dr. Lucy R. Waletzky of Westchester County, a longtime park advocate, who serves voluntarily as chair of the New York State Council of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation, and chair of the Taconic Commission. Troy video goes viral
Online viewership of a documentary produced in Troy at The Sanctuary for Independent Media, based on U.S. soldier Ethan McCord's eyewitness account of a notorious Apache helicopter attack on Iraqi civilians and combat footage allegedly revealed by Pfc Bradley Manning, has reached over 700,000, largely thanks to a link on the WikiLeaks website. "WikiLeaks' Collateral Murder: U.S. Soldier Ethan McCord's Eyewitness Story" shows U.S. soldier Ethan McCord speaking about a 2007 civilian massacre in New Baghdad, supported by his own photographs as well as with Apache helicopter footage of the attack released by WikiLeaks in April 2010. McCord's story was delivered to attendees of the United National Peace Conference, which took place in Albany, NY the weekend of July 23-25, 2010.
