Jeanette Wolfberg reports for the Columbia Paper several news items from the Columbia County Community Services Board meeting May 29:

• “I don’t want to jinx this by saying it, but so far there have been no fatal overdoses in Columbia County this year,” Michael Cole, Director of Community Services for Columbia County said. “There’s no proof, but I think Narcan is making a difference."

• The Columbia County Jail population is lower. “That should be good,” Cole said, but called it “ironic” after the county built up programs at the jail.

• The Galvan Hotel, for emergency housing for the homeless referred there by the county Department of Human Services may open in July in Greenport.

The Columbia County Community Services Board meets next at noon September 25 at 325 Columbia St. in Hudson.
